The wreck of the Paguro platform, sank the 29th September 1965 into a depth of 35 meters, and turned over time into a submarine oasis that fascinates its visitors with the charm of its varied life forms.
The Paguro platform, launched in 1963 in Porto Corsini, in September 1965 prepared the last of its missions: the drilling of the well PC7 to reach a oilfield almost three kilometers deep. It was Sept. 29th, when the unexpected occurred: the auger damaged a second field, full of high pressure gas. Nothing could do all the safety measures: the fury of the deep broke into an angry and uncontrollable eruption. The crushed platform caught on fire - burning along with the lives of three technicians from Agip: Pietro Peri, Arturo Biagini and Bernardo Gervasoni - and sank into the depths. Slowly, the inhabitants of the abyss settled into the wreck. Hermit crabs, Redfish, Lobsters, Crabs, Oysters have taken up residence.
From 1965 to present the sunk methane platform is in this way reborn, becoming a submarine haven, declared in 1995 Site of Community Importance, which fascinates its visitors with the charm of its varied forms of life. From a disaster rose a marvel, sealing the dichotomy between past and present, holding the pact of yesterday and today. Without that nefarious event the abode of those species, unusual in our seas, would not exist, as the cradle of the wines of the Tenuta Del Paguro would not be available.
